09 .01 .14 Sara Happ Lip Scrub

This is one of those products borne out of sheer necessity—and a major hole in the market. Obsessed with all things lips, when Sara Happ googled “lip scrub” in 2005, there were NO results in Google. So she cooked up her own. Today, it’s a cult favorite, including my makeup artist crush, Charlotte Tilbury.

I realize that a lip scrub is probably not high on the beauty priority list, but I promise, once you try it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

This is the delicious pink grapefruit that I love, but I’m also a fan of vanilla bean, brown sugar and peppermint and creme brûlée.

That’s my girl Emerson trying to help me get ready. Mornings can be rough. That’s why I’m over at NadineJolie.com talking about my morning makeup routine. (It’s fast, requires no skill and will help you look more awake than you feel.)

I can’t recall exactly when it happened, but at some point after I had my girls, my approach to makeup went from experimental and fun to pragmatic and fast. At 7am, when I’ve got mouths to feed, backpacks to pack, and a toddler at my feet, my makeup plan doesn’t have a lot of room for error. There’s no time to play with color or carefully wing out some liquid eyeliner. At 7am, it’s about covering up and contouring, lightening and brightening. And fast.

I hear so many mothers say they just don’t have time in the morning to put on makeup. And I don’t disagree—once you have school-age children, especially, time is tight to get out the door. Often women tell me they just skip makeup altogether, even though it really boosts their confidence, because they just “can’t deal.” That makes me sad.

It’s my mission to help mothers everywhere feel their best and make beauty straightforward and accessible, as opposed to trendy or aspirational. That’s why I’ve come up with a foolproof morning makeup plan. A makeup uniform, if you will. Six products in six minutes. It’s super easy and natural looking. With some creative parenting (and perhaps some baby-gating) it’s really quite doable.

There’s so much that’s new and innovative about Benefit’s They’re Real Push-Up Eyeliner, and yet, it’s purely classic. This might be the most perfect, fool-proof eyeliner ever. The color is the darkest, mattest black and the applicator tip is truly unique—it actually pushes your lashes out of the way so you can really saturate  the lash line for the most eye-popping look. You can easily make the line as thick or as thin (or as winged) as you like.

It launches Friday, June 27th. If you see women camping out at Sephora, now you’ll know why.

06 .18 .14 Love Baume

Little luxuries make me happy. Like this divine tinted lip balm from Lancome. And I’ll be the first to admit that you don’t need to spend $26 on a moisturizer for your pout. But Baume in Love is just so perfect—it feels so decadent and smooth and has the subtlest, most enduring wash of color I’ve ever seen. I have the barely-there Peche Pout, but the line offers a range of really wearable sheer neons in pink,  purple and orange that I can really get behind, especially in summer.

I know, I know—there are now CC creams and even DD creams, but I come back to this Dr. Jart Black Label Detox Beauty Balm every time. It’s just perfection. I’ve been using it every day for over two years and it has definitely improved my skin’s texture and tone. It’s soothes and smooths, with active plant extracts that work to calm skin and combat environmental nasties. Over time, it fades dark spots. With key ingredients like caviar, green tea and aloe, along with healthy, broad-spectrum sunscreens and the potent natural antioxidant arbutin—this light, multi-tasking formula hydrates, protects and camouflages. But that’s not even the best part—the best part is the radiant finish: it’s a little big magical.

My Dr. Jart is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin. Admittedly, there are a lot of very good BB creams out there, but they tend to have dimethicone, an emollient (found it many primers, foundations and skin care creams) that makes me break out. Dr. Jart has no dimethicone and it’s also blissfully free of parabens, sulfates or phthalates. I do not leave the house without my Dr. Jart on. It’s like my facial shield, with it’s excellent SPF and antioxidant protection. I either wear it alone or add some foundation on top when I want a little more coverage.

P.S. Don’ t let the universal shade give you pause—it really does self-adjust to the right shade.

05 .14 .14 Beautiful Bare Skin

bareMinerals new Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation is so good I want to write a love song about it.

I have honestly never felt anything like it. It’s a liquid, yes, but it is so thin it really does feel like a serum. And like a serum, it has properties of skincare that boost radiance and skin tone: potent levels of vitamin C, proprietary plant stem cells that work to regenerate cells, and a broad-spectrum, non-chemical SPF for protection. No parabens, no silicone, no oil, no fragrance, non-comedogenic. Bare Skin is, indeed, the bare minimum to the maximus.

Now let’s talk coverage: it’s buildable. A few drops and a sheer wash of color evens skin, comparable to a tinted moisturizer. A few more drops and you’re able to camouflage peskier problems. The silky finish is not matte or dewey—it’s actually like skin. This is your bare face, only better and brighter.

Now, who plays the guitar and can pen a tune?

P.S. I’m a a big fan of Bare Minerals concealers, too.
